What is Cast Color?
Cast Color is the latest innovative tile material from Questech, which started with Cast Metal and includes Cast Stone. Cast Color has the look and feel of glass but is easier to install and care for.
How are Cast Color tiles made?
The tiles are Cast in Questech, using a proprietary composite made with glass. Each tile is made from an original hand carved design.
Are there variations in tone and color?
The tiles will vary naturally from piece to piece. However, they do not vary from lot to lot like ceramic tile, and will always coordinate beautifully together.
Where can I use the tiles?
They can be used on any interior wall, including wet areas. The tiles can also be used as a counter edge molding. Tiles are not suitable for countertop surfaces or exterior installations.
How do I install the tiles?
Tiles that are Cast in Questech can be installed using Questech standard tile setting methods. For Cast Color™ tiles we recommend white setting materials: polymer fortified white thin-set, white epoxy and mastic.
The tiles cut easily with a wet saw or a spiral saw and can be drilled with a high-speed drill. Do not score and snap. Please read Questech Cast Color™ Installation, Use & Care Instructions for full installation information prior to installing tiles.
Q: Is there a special RPM speed that should be used when cutting Cast Color tiles to prevent burning or melting if the speed is set too high?
Cast Color is a thermal set product and cannot be re-melted, so no melting should occur regardless of speed. However, as indicated in the installation instructions, tiles are best cut or mitered with a diamond abrasive wet-saw. They can also be cut using a rotary dermal cutting tool in some applications. Burning or black marks can take place when cutting any material when lubrication is not used. It is recommended that if you are seeing any burning, you should use lubrication, i.e. water.
Q: Will the tiles chip when they are being cut?
Cast Color™ is not as brittle as glass and therefore less prone to chipping during cutting. Also, the paint on the back of the tile will not chip during cutting.
Are there special installation situations?
Tiles are not recommended in areas where the tiled surface temperature will exceed 130°F (55°C). For example, do not install tiles as a heat shield behind a wood (or gas) stove, near certain kitchen cook tops, fireplace surrounds and steam rooms/steam showers. Tiles can be used in a bathroom or regular shower.
What is Q-Seal™?
Questech tiles and accessories are protected by Q-Seal, a factory-applied, permanent sealer that is guaranteed to be water and stain resistant for as long as you own your home. The sealer also provides abrasion resistance and includes an anti-bacterial ingredient – Ultra-Fresh®, that inhibits the growth of mold and mildew.
